Still Have a Golden Visa in Spain? We Provide the Health Insurance You Need (Updated Info)

As of April 3rd, 2025, Spain has ceased issuing Investor Visas—commonly referred to as Golden Visas—previously granted to non-EU nationals who invested €500,000 or more in property.

However, any investor visas and authorizations that were already in effect on the date this transitional provision came into force will remain valid for the duration for which they were originally issued.

Additionally, the law states: “If renewal applications are submitted, they will be processed and decided in accordance with the regulations that were in force at the time the original authorization was granted.”

In other words, the new legislation includes a transitional clause that protects investors and their family members who applied before the changes took effect. (From 2023 eligible individuals and families can apply for a Digital Nomad Visa in Spain)

Is it mandatory to maintain private health insurance if you already have the Spanish Golden Visa?

Yes. To renew your Golden Visa residence permit, you must maintain a valid private health insurance policy that offers full medical coverage in Spain, with no co-payments or waiting periods. The policy must be from a provider authorized to operate in Spain.
